Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his recent comments on a podcast hosted by Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath. PM Modi stated that he is human, not God, and can make mistakes, sparking Ramesh to label the remark as “damage control” following the Prime Minister’s earlier claim of being non-biological.
On the podcast, which marked PM Modi’s debut in the medium, he reflected on his personal principles and leadership style. He emphasized that while mistakes are inevitable, his intentions are always honest. “When I became Gujarat Chief Minister, I committed to working hard, doing nothing for personal gain, and maintaining good intentions. I am human and can make mistakes, but I will not act with bad intentions,” Modi said.
Jairam Ramesh responded sharply to the statement on X (formerly Twitter), mocking Modi for what he perceived as an attempt to repair his image after previous remarks. “This from a man who proclaimed his non-biological status just eight months back. Clearly, this is damage control,” Ramesh wrote.

The reference was to Modi’s earlier comments during an interview ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Reflecting on his electoral campaigns and work ethic, PM Modi had said, “When my mother was alive, I believed I was born biologically. After her passing, I realized this energy isn’t biological. God has sent me, and this energy is divine.”
In the podcast, Modi also discussed the balance between ideology and idealism in politics. He highlighted the significance of idealism, saying that while ideology is essential for politics, idealism provides guidance. Citing examples, he pointed out that figures like Mahatma Gandhi and Vinayak Savarkar had different ideologies but shared the goal of freedom for India.
This marks another exchange between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress as both parties prepare for upcoming electoral battles. While PM Modi’s podcast sought to highlight his principles and vision, it has also sparked political debate, with Congress seizing the opportunity to challenge his statements
