There is a harrowing incident that has emerged out of Kerala where a young athlete was sexually abused by more than 60 men within five years. The woman, who is a national award-winning sportsperson, said that she had been groped and sexually harassed by several men, many of whom had enjoyed her patronage.
In the victim’s report, the abuse started at 15 years of age and lasted for five years up to when she was 20 years. She has accused that she was raped and coerced into having intercourse with a number of men, including coaches, trainers and other players. The victim has also accused his or her predators of having threatened and scared her into compliance and having compelled her to continue engaging in athletic competitions even with the ‘victim’.
The case could only be reported and come to the light once the victim reported a case to the police. An inquiry followed during which five men were apprehended and charged in relation to the incident. Other signatories are the set member, the accused coach, trainer as well as three other man who are said to have perpetuated the vice.
