BJP, holding a formidable strength of 132 MLAs, will obtain the majority of ministerial roles, securing 22 positions. This signifies a notable change for BJP in contrast to its last term when it had only nine ministries despite possessing 105 MLAs. The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, which has 57 MLAs, is anticipated to obtain 12 cabinet positions. In the meantime, Ajit Pawar’s NCP, which has 41 MLAs, will occupy 10 posts.

The BJP’s stronger showing in the latest elections has not only reinforced its control over the state but also enabled it to establish its supremacy within the Mahayuti coalition. Insiders from the party indicate that this cabinet reshuffle will address internal dissent by including additional leaders.

Previous Mahayuti administration

In the previous Mahayuti administration, all three parties received equal representation with nine ministries assigned to each. This triggered dissatisfaction within BJP, which has now utilized its greater electoral authority to shift the balance. The revised cabinet distribution is determined by a formula that provides one ministerial slot for every six to seven MLAs. BJP’s decisive win has gained it almost half of the cabinet roles.
