BJP Slams Iltija Mufti’s ‘Hindutva a Disease’ Remark, Demands Apology
Iltija Mufti, daughter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti, has sparked controversy with her remark that “Hindutva is a disease” . The BJP has taken exception to her statement, demanding an apology for hurting Hindu sentiments.
Iltija’s comment was made in response to a video showing minor Muslim boys being forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram” and beaten by a man. She stated that Hindutva has afflicted millions of Indians and sullied the name of God ¹. However, she later clarified that her remark was distorted and that she was criticizing Hindutva, not Hinduism.
The BJP has condemned Iltija’s statement, with party leader Ravinder Raina saying that hurting religious sentiments is unacceptable ¹. Another BJP leader, Agnimitra Paul, accused Iltija and her mother Mehbooba Mufti of spreading hatred and comparing Islam with Hinduism.
The controversy highlights the ongoing debate about Hindutva and its relationship with Hinduism. While Iltija argues that Hindutva is a distorted interpretation of Hinduism that promotes hatred and violence, the BJP sees her remark as an attack on Hinduism itself. The incident has sparked a wider conversation about the need for tolerance and respect for different religions and ideologies in India.
