Shrikant Shinde denies rumors of becoming Maharashtra deputy CM, calls speculation baseless, focuses on constituency
Amid rumors that he is being considered for the deputy chief minister’s post in Maharashtra, Shrikant Shinde, son of caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, dismissed the speculation as baseless. He clarified that he has no interest in holding a ministerial position and is focused solely on his constituency and party work.
In a post onX, Shrikant addressed the delay in the swearing-in ceremony of the new government. “There are a lot of rumors. Caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde went to his village for two days to rest due to ill health. This led to speculation. The news about me becoming the deputy chief minister is completely baseless,” he wrote.
Shrikant also revealed that he had previously declined a chance to join the Union Cabinet after the Lok Sabha elections, preferring to work for the Shiv Sena party organization. “I have no desire for a position in power. I am not in the race for any ministerial post in Maharashtra. My focus remains on my Lok Sabha constituency and Shiv Sena,” he added.
Shrikant Shinde is the Member of Parliament representing the Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency in Maharashtra.
The swearing-in of the new Maharashtra government has been delayed even though the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), also known as Mahayuti, won a decisive victory in the recent state elections.
On Sunday, a senior BJP leader confirmed that Devendra Fadnavis would retain the position of chief minister. Eknath Shinde, who was also seen as a contender, reportedly accepted the BJP’s decision. Speaking from his village in Satara district, where he was recovering from a high fever, Shinde said, “The decision on the CM’s post by the BJP leadership is acceptable to me and Shiv Sena. It will have my full support.”
Shrikant Shinde’s denial puts an end to speculation about his role in the new government as political discussions continue to shape the next cabinet.
