As if parting ways was not enough, Outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde offered his resignation to Governor Ramesh Bias on Tuesday, marking the formal end to his term. Despite being one of the strong contenders for the post, Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is also in the fray. The decision about the chief ministerial post is yet to be finalized, which is leaving many party workers and the public in the dark.
The decision to determine the next CM shall be taken collectively, alliance leaders said, and thus the final word shall be guided by consultations among all stakeholders, with BJP central leadership also consulted. In the meantime, Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis remained engaged in talks and the latter traveled to Delhi to meet the senior BJP leaders. This move shows the importance of central leadership in deciding the final word.

Shiv Sena leaders have been vocal about calling for the continuing of Eknath Shinde as chief minister. Some party workers, in a way of act, even performed an aarti at the Dagdusheth Ganpati temple. They pray for his reinstatement. Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde confirmed that the process of government formation is underway and asserted that the decisions taken will be in line with the leadership of the BJP.
Elections finally wrapped up on November 23, and Maharashtra witnessed an impressive 66.05 percent voter turnout during the electoral exercise carried out in the state on November 20. Such a high voter turnout clearly reiterates the common public interest in forming the future governance of the state.
Recognising that his supporters were in a state of uncertainty, Eknath Shinde appealed emotionally for unity and waited patiently. He appealed to party workers to trust the leadership of the alliance and the democratic process. Shinde’s tenure as CM was marked by efforts to stabilize the coalition and implement pro-development initiatives, winning him considerable goodwill among Shiv Sena members and the broader alliance.
The stakes for Mahayuti are high, because such an emphatic mandate holds huge responsibility to deliver in the circumstances. The question of leadership is not merely a political maneuver but an indicator of what the alliance chooses to focus upon. Be it Shinde, who has a proven track record in administration, or Fadnavis, who has had considerable experience in political circuits, the person in charge will determine the course that Maharashtra takes politically and developmentally in the years ahead.
As the suspense lingers, all eyes are on the BJP and its allies to announce their choice. Until then, the atmosphere remains electric, with the public, party workers, and political analysts eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Maharashtra’s governance.
