Actor Ranbir Kapoor recently addressed criticism about his film Animal (2023) and Sanju (2018) during the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. A person at the event pointed out that these films glorify violence and promote negative messages, suggesting such movies should not be encouraged. The individual also praised older films for their meaningful stories.
Ranbir agreed with the criticism but explained his perspective. He said, “I completely agree with your opinion. As an actor, it is our responsibility to bring movies that create a positive impact on society. However, it’s equally important for me to explore different genres and portray varied characters. What you’re saying is absolutely correct—we need to be more responsible with the kind of films we make.”
About Animal
Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, is an action drama starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri. The film received mixed reviews after its release. While praised for performances, it faced criticism for themes like misogyny, toxic masculinity, and graphic violence.

Released in 2018, Sanju is a biographical film directed by Rajkumar Hirani, based on the life of actor Sanjay Dutt. Though a commercial success, Sanju was criticized for allegedly whitewashing Dutt’s controversial life.
Ranbir’s Upcoming Projects
Ranbir Kapoor will next feature in Love and War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film, also starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, was announced in January 2024. Additionally, Ranbir will appear in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana alongside Sai Pallavi.
