NPP Withdraws Support from Biren Singh-Led BJP Government in Manipur Over Crisis Management Failure
The National People’s Party has officially withdrawn its support from the Bharatiya Janata Party-led N Biren Singh government in Manipur. The decision has come following growing protests against the state government for not ending the crisis that has hit the people of Manipur.

National President of NPP and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, in a strongly-worded letter to BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda, spoke of the highly deteriorating situation in Manipur. He was deeply worried by the tragic circumstances under which many blameless lives have been lost and suffered by the state’s population due to the crisis. The letter further said that during the tenure of chief minister Biren Singh, the government has not been able to restore normalcy, nor were effective solutions provided to the issue at hand.

NPP withdraws support from BJP-Led under State minister Shri Biren Singh in Manipur has miserably failed in addressing the crisis and bringing things to normal. Given this situation, the National People’s Party has decided to pull out its support for this government of the state of Manipur with immediate effect, said Sangma.

It holds seven important MLA seats in the Manipur Legislative Assembly. Some of its important MLAs are Sheikh Noorul Hassan (Kshetrigao AC), Khuraijam Loken Singh (Wangoi AC), Irengbam Nalini Devi (Oinam AC), Thongam Shanti Singh (Moirang AC), Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh (Kakching AC), N. Kayisii (Tadubi AC), and Janghemlung Panmei (Tamenglong AC).
In the 2022 Manipur Assembly elections, it won a majority with 32 seats, while the NPP became the most important ally winning seven seats. Nonetheless, the coalition has been under considerable strain since growing dissent over the BJP’s handling of governance in the state. The remainder 21 seats of the assembly were distributed among other parties including Congress which won five seats.
This is likely to break the foundation of the Under Biren Singh,BJP’s rule in Manipur and there could be drastic political changes. With crisis unfolding, the BJP would face immense pressure on its own to stabilize the situation with the demand of their former ally. For now, let’s concentrate on how the state government is going to emerge from this challenging period and regain its confidence among the people and political allies.
