Compact ‘strict’ to national prominence in the year 1955 when he led the Montgomery Bus Boycott following the arrest of Rosa Parks for her defiance to surrender her bus seat for whites. The boycott exceeded more than a year making it possible for Supreme Court to determine that buses’ segregation was unconstitutional. This triumph was part of the civil rights battle and explained how effective the peaceful protest was.
