A Hyderabad citizen named Emmadi Suresh Babu complained to the consumer court about Swiggy. Babu asserted that he was entitled to free delivery within a certain radius because he had acquired a Swiggy One membership. But on November 1, 2023, he placed an order with Swiggy, and the app expanded the distance between his home and the eatery from 9.7 km to 14 km. Swiggy then assessed him a delivery distance fee of ₹103.

After considering Babu’s evidence, which included screenshots from Google Maps, the court determined that Swiggy had inflated the delivery distance. According to the TOI report, the court proceeded ex parte because Swiggy did not attend the proceedings. Swiggy was ordered by the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Ranga Reddy, Telangana, to reimburse Babu for the $350.48 he paid for his meal order on the filing date, plus 9% interest. Additionally, the meal delivery platform was directed to reimburse the Hyderabad resident for the 103 rupee delivery price.
