A fireworks accident near the Veerarkavu Temple in Kasaragod, Kerala, resulted in more than 150 injuries, with eight individuals reported in critical condition. The incident occurred late on Monday night during the Moolamkuzhi Chamundi Theyyam festival. Eyewitnesses say that a misfired cracker struck a storage facility containing explosives, causing a massive explosion that ignited a large fire.
The accident took place around midnight when many people had gathered to watch the fireworks display as part of the festival. The explosion sent shockwaves through the area, injuring many bystanders, including women and children. The injured were quickly taken to various hospitals in Kasargod, Kannur, and Mangaluru for treatment.

Local media reports indicate that five of the injured are in very critical condition. Specifically, 33 people were admitted to the district hospital in Kanhangad, while 19 were taken to Aishal Hospital in the same area. Additionally, 12 individuals were treated at Arimala Hospital, and 40 were sent to Sanjeevani Hospital. Other victims were taken to Nileshwar Taluk Hospital and Aster MIMS Hospital in Kannur. The district administration also mentioned that more injured people have been transported to hospitals in Mangaluru and the Government Medical College Hospital in Pariyaram, Kannur.

Top district officials, including the district collector and police chief, arrived at the scene to assess the situation. They are currently investigating the cause of the fire and the circumstances that led to the explosion.
As news of the accident spread, local communities have come together to support the victims and their families during this difficult time. Authorities are urging the public to remain cautious during festivals and to follow safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents in the future.
