Know dates for 5 days of Diwali – When is Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhai Dooj?
Diwali, or the Festival of Light has set the house, streets, and people full of warmth, light and happiness. The five-day festival is held in January to celebrate triumph of light over the darkness or the evil. The day is a common concept known to mean every twenty-four hours; every day has its traditions and importance. Dhanteras (October 29, 2024)
The first day of the ten uncommon days of celebration is called Dhanteras traditionally observed as money and wealth. They sweep and garnish their houses, and purchase valuable metals such as gold or silver to symbolize wealth. It is also considered to be an ideal day for beginning any sorts of activities.
Naraka Chaturdashi or Chhoti Diwali (October 31 )
The second day is called Naraka Chaturdashi or Chotti Diwali where Krishna killed demon Narakasura which symbolized victory over evil. On this day the people of India rise early in the morning and take bath and illuminate their homes with diyas to fight evil.
Diwali (November 1, 2024)
The Diwali night is the greatest one and the people celebrate it through prayers, lamps, crackers and sweets. People also pray to the goddess of wealth and wealth power Laxmi Mata and Lord Ganesha for knowledge. During this night, everybody burns little clay lamps called diyas at their homes to remind of the win over the worthless darkness.
Sri Govardhan Puja (November2, 2024)
Govardhan Puja also performed on the next day of Diwali to know the tale of Lord Krishna, who raised the Mount Govardhan to protect his devotees from the shower. Symbols in the form of food appear before the deity to thank nature for the crops that are harvested during this time of the year.
Bhai Dooj (November 3, 2024)
The festival, however, ends on Bhai Beej or Bhai Dooj which is a festival for brothers and sisters. Sisters make a wish for brothers to be economically productive and, in exchange, brothers, promise to guard their sisters. It is a special day, lovers exchange gifts and everyone meets with their families.
