MK Stalin criticizes Governor for omitting state anthem line, accusing him of imposing Hindi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin criticized Governor RN Ravi over a controversy involving the state anthem. During an event on Friday, a line from the anthem mentioning Dravida was skipped by the singers, which sparked the latest clash between the two leaders. Stalin accused the Governor of disrespecting Tamil culture and imposing Hindi.

The event, organized by Doordarshan Kendra Chennai, was held during Hindi Month. The omission happened during the anthem’s rendition at the event presided over by the Governor. Stalin took to social media platform X to question RN Ravi, asking why he didn’t correct the mistake on the spot. He also claimed that the Governor had previously ignored the “Dravidian model” in public speeches, leading to distrust among Tamils.

Doordarshan Tamil later apologized for the mistake, calling it inadvertent and clarifying that there was no intention to disrespect Tamil or the state song, Tamizh Thaai Vaazhthu. However, Stalin remained firm in his stance, accusing the Governor of insulting the unity and diversity of India by pushing a Hindi agenda.

Stalin argued that the Governor, under the guise of observing Hindi Month, was trying to impose Hindi in Tamil Nadu, a non-Hindi-speaking state. He criticized the Center and the Governor, appointed by the Modi administration, for promoting a policy of Hindi everywhere.

Governor RN Ravi responded by accusing MK Stalin of making racist remarks, which he said were beneath the dignity of a Chief Minister. However, he did not address the missing line in the anthem. The Governor defended himself, stating that he recites the full state anthem with reverence and that he respects Tamil culture. He also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to promote the Tamil language and culture, both in India and internationally.

Stalin, however, reiterated his criticism, stating that Tamil identity and pride are fundamental and not racist. He urged the Governor to follow constitutional norms and avoid turning the Governor’s office into a political platform. He also wrote to Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing that the Constitution does not recognize any national language and advised against celebrating Hindi Month in non-Hindi-speaking states.
