The city of Chennai and many other regions in Tamil Nadu saw severe waterlogging due to continuous rainfall on Tuesday which affected normal life. The streets in the city and every resident area was in the knee-deep water which become very hard for individuals living there. Services of public transport were affected and also resulted in huge traffic which blocked the roads and also many domestic flight were cancelled. Similarly, due to heavy waterlogging across the station, the Southern Railway decided to terminate four more express trains including one of the most prevalent Chennai Central-Mysuru Kaveri Express trains.

According to the IMD, an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal has caused heavy rainfall in South India. Waterlogging was reported in several parts of the state, including Chennai. Visuals showed people wading through knee-deep waters in Chennai as several parts of the city reeled under a flood due to rainfall. Streets and roads were flooded with muddy water following heavy rainfall.

Several trains were partially cancelled; some trains were terminated earlier than Chennai Central with suburban Avadi as a new starting point for some of the trains. The IMD stated as a well marked low pressure area formed over the Comorin region, the Deepish depression formed over the Gulf of Mannar and is likely to strike Chennai around October 17 with more rains.

Weighty downpours lashed Chennai and different pieces of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, carrying the city to a stop. Private areas and streets were immersed with knee-profound water, making boundless disturbances day to day existence. The constant deluge prompted gridlock, injured public transportation benefits, and constrained the dropping of a few homegrown flights.

The IMD also sounded the alert with warning of heavy to extremely heavy rains in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts. However, the orange alert has been hoisted in Bengaluru since the city is expected to receive heavy rain in the next few days. As the wet weather continues, citizens of both cities will experience ongoing disruptions and should remain vigilant and follow measures to avoid the worse.
