S Jaishankar To Attend SCO Meet Today in Pakistan- Security Tightened

The October 15–16 SCO summit will center on collaboration in important domains like commerce, economics, ecology, and sociocultural exchanges. As the current Chair of the SCO, Prime Minister Sharif is presiding over this year’s Council of Heads of Government (CHG) summit, which is being hosted by Pakistan.

Today marks the start of the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Islamabad, which is a major diplomatic occasion attended by seven prime ministers, including those of China and Russia, as well as India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar. Despite continuous hostilities between the two neighbors, this is the first high-level Indian official travel to Pakistan in almost nine years, underlining India’s commitment to the SCO.

The timing of Jaishankar’s visit coincides with continued problems with cross-border terrorism and the Kashmir dispute, which continue to sour relations between India and Pakistan. Jaishankar is scheduled to attend a luncheon given by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif upon his arrival in Islamabad; however, both parties have ruled out holding bilateral discussions between their ministers at the meeting.

Prime ministers from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are present with Jaishankar. The First Vice President of Iran will also be in attendance, while high-ranking representatives from Mongolia and Turkmenistan will also be taking part in the talks.
