A group that had been hacking Bengaluru North University’s Unified University and College Management System (UUCMS) portal in Kolar and manipulating the grades of over sixty failing graduate students was recently nabbed by Karnataka police. The Kolar District’s Cyber Crime & Narcotics Control Police Station (CEN) discovered a network of con artists who were unlawfully collecting money from exam-failing students by taking advantage of security holes in the Bengaluru North University (BNU) UUCMS website.

Girish, Sandesh, and Surya were taken into custody by the police on the basis of a complaint that the registrar of the institution had submitted. According to the police, Surya attends MNG Pre-University College in Kolar, where Girish and Sandesh are trustees, and Girish is a student. Their bank accounts have been stopped, according to the police, and they believe there may be more victims of this unlawful scheme. The inquiry is now underway.

According to the inquiry, the accused hacked into the portal and altered the grades of more than sixty students by using Thippeswamy, the university’s registrar,’s login credentials. For changing their grades, they charged between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 to each student.
After conducting additional inquiry, Kolar CEN police found that the fraudsters had taken advantage of security flaws in the UUCMS website and changed passwords to gain access to the records of students who had dropped out of several degree programs connected to Bengaluru North University. The con artists got in touch with the students and offered them cash and UPI transfers in exchange for changing their grades.
