As he was exiting an election-related event on Sunday, September 29, Rishi Nagar, the news director of Red FM Calgary, was attacked. He said that the event at the Gurdwara Dashmesh Cultural Centre in Calgary, which resulted in the arrest of two Indo-Canadians on charges relating to firearms, was the source of the information that sparked the attack. The two people who were detained were named as Gursewak Singh and Sukhpreet Singh, and they were both accused of crimes involving guns, a Calgary Police spokeswoman told Red FM.

As Nagar was leaving an election-related event at a banquet venue in the city’s northeast, he was attacked. “They assaulted without warning as soon as I left the event and headed for my car. My right leg hurts, and my left eye is wounded,” he declared. He claimed that earlier, one of the attackers’ associates had been in touch with him to schedule a meeting. Despite the report’s connection to the community’s ongoing extortion operations, Nagar told Hindustan Times he thought the attack was carried out by “pro-Khalistan people.”

Two people were seen attacking Nagar in the CCTV footage of the parking lot incident. Pierre Poilievre, the head of Canada’s official opposition Conservative Party, denounced the attack. He had responded by saying he was “horrified by this violent assault” on Nagar in a post on X. Premier of Alberta Danielle Smith expressed her “deep sadness” at the event. She also stated at the time that “violence and intimidation against anyone, especially those who work tirelessly to inform the public, have no place in our society.”
