Former Bharatiya Janata Party MP Arjun Singh reported that his residence in Barrackpore, West Bengal, was attacked on Friday. Singh claimed that his office-cum-residence, known as Mazdoor Bhawan, came under fire when bombs were hurled, and multiple rounds of bullets were fired. During the incident, Singh said he sustained a minor splinter wound.

Singh, who previously switched from the Trinamool Congress to the BJP, lost to TMC’s Partha Bhowmick in the recent general elections. He described the chaotic scene, stating, “Hurling of bombs, firing, and pelting of stones happened at my house. When I came down, the public also started chasing them away, but they continued to throw bombs.” He noted that at least 20 police officers were present during the attack.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Singh stated that the attack occurred while his family was engaged in Navratri puja. He accused Namit Singh, the son of a local TMC councillor, of orchestrating the assault. Singh claimed, “This morning, while everyone was occupied with Navratri Puja, several jihadis and goons, under the protection of Namit Singh, attacked my office-cum-residence, with the local police looking on.”
An officer from the Jagatdal police station reported that there were no confirmed injuries and that senior police officials, along with additional forces, were at the scene to conduct an investigation. Eyewitnesses described smoke filling the area due to the explosions.
TMC MLA Somenath Shyam dismissed Singh’s claims, stating, “After losing his political footing, he is blaming the TMC for problems he created himself.”
In response to the incident, BJP leaders criticized the ruling TMC and called for a thorough investigation. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar expressed concern over safety in West Bengal, stating, “If an ex-MP is not safe, then who is safe? This incident should be properly investigated.”
