Shashank Arora is no new to the festival scene; in fact, this was his third time attending TIFF with Superboys of Malegaon. Speaking about his involvement in film festivals, he continues, saying that these events provide artists with a “huge boost.” Distributors from all over the world attend festivals and ultimately distribute films to different markets. According to the actor, the real beauty lies in bringing cinema to every corner of the globe.

Superboys of Malegaon actor Shashank Arora considers the reception to his movie to be nothing less than a “blessing.” A full house at the 49th Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) recently gave the Reema Kagti-directed film a standing ovation. It will be screened at the BFI London Film Festival later this month. He tells us, “People seem to resonate with what the film is trying to say,” as he muses over the experience. Viewers from all over the world are traveling to see the movie. I’m excited to be here with the other filmmakers.

From his debut movie role as an extra (Myoho, 2012) to his frequent attendance at international film festivals, the 35-year-old sees his journey as one of personal development. “You are doing something very wrong if you don’t grow.” I think I understand my work better now. When I was younger, all I wanted was the job and the money. “I now feel obligated to myself to share more stories with this privilege and this audience,” he says in closing.
