Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing a rally in Faridabad, Haryana, shared a surprising experience from his recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir. He recounted an encounter with a Muslim cleric, or Maulvi, who greeted him by saying Ram Ram, a traditional Hindu greeting. Adityanath said this incident highlights the positive impact of the abrogation of Article 370 in the region.

The Chief Minister recalled the moment, saying, “I was in Jammu and Kashmir for the last two days for the assembly elections. It was raining, so I went inside the airport, and a man greeted me, saying Yogi Sahab Ram Ram. Later, I found out he was a Maulvi. I was surprised to hear Ram Ram from him.” He added that such instances were signs of change in the region after Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was revoked in 2019.

Adityanath further remarked that those who once opposed India’s unity are now embracing its culture. He even speculated that in the future, such people might chant Hare Rama, Hare Krishna on the streets of the country.

In his speech, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also pointed to the peaceful situation in his own state, claiming that no communal violence had occurred in Uttar Pradesh during his seven-and-a-half-year tenure. He compared this to earlier times when riots were common, happening every two or three days.

Adityanath’s comments came during a campaign rally for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Haryana assembly elections, scheduled for October 5. The BJP is seeking its third consecutive term in the state. The party’s election promises include monthly assistance of ₹2,100 for women, the creation of two lakh government jobs, and the provision of scooters to female college students in rural areas.
