This incident comes shortly after another employee death due to work stress at Ernst & Young in Pune. In response, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav criticized the working conditions in both government and private sectors. He stated that employees are facing severe stress and compared their situation to that of bonded laborers, emphasizing their lack of rights.

Yadav also addressed recent comments made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who suggested that young people under stress should learn stress management techniques. He argued that instead of providing such advice, the government should focus on improving working conditions. He expressed concern that such insensitive suggestions only add to the distress faced by employees during tragic incidents like Fatima’s death.

Despite the allegations, EY has denied any link between the company’s working conditions and Sebastian’s death. This incident has reignited discussions about the mental and physical toll of high-pressure work environments, particularly within professional services firms, underscoring the urgent need for better support systems for employees in these settings.
