Karnataka High Court rejects Siddaramaiah’s plea, investigation into MUDA scam will proceed as planned

In a significant development, the Karnataka High Court has rejected Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s plea against Governor Thawarchand Gehlot’s approval for a probe into the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam. The ruling was delivered today by Justice M Nagaprasanna, who stated that the Governor’s order to sanction prosecution did not show any non-application of mind.

The controversy centers around allegations that Siddaramaiah facilitated the illegal allotment of 14 prime sites in Mysuru city to his wife. The Chief Minister is under investigation for these alleged irregularities linked to MUDA.

Today’s verdict follows an interim order from the High Court on August 19, which temporarily protected Siddaramaiah by instructing a special court in Bengaluru to delay any further action regarding the prosecution sanction granted by the Governor. However, the latest decision means that the investigation can proceed.

The case has attracted attention after complaints surfaced claiming that MUDA executed various projects worth ₹387 crore in constituencies represented by Siddaramaiah—Varuna and Srirangapatna—allegedly under verbal instructions from him.

Governor Gehlot’s approval for the prosecution came on August 31, based on petitions filed by individuals T J Abraham, Pradeep, and Snehamayi Krishna. This move stirred political controversy, leading to protests from Congress party members and other state ministers. They organized a Raj Bhavan Chalo demonstration against the Governor’s decision, claiming bias in his actions, especially since other cases have not received the same prompt attention.

The High Court’s ruling adds pressure on Siddaramaiah as he faces investigation. The implications of this case may influence Karnataka’s political landscape, and developments are being closely monitored by both supporters and opponents. The Chief Minister’s office has yet to respond to the court’s decision, leaving many questions unanswered regarding the future of Siddaramaiah and his government.
