Stone Pelting Attack on Mahabodhi Express Near Prayagraj Leaves Several Injured Amid Growing Railway Sabotage Threats; 3 Suspects Detained
A number of passengers were injured while stones were pelted at the Mahabodhi Express coming from New Delhi to Gaya on Monday night. The attack occurred shortly after the train departed from Prayagraj Junction around 8:45 PM. Some unknown anti social elements then started throwing stones at the S-3 coach as the train crossing the bridge, where the situation went out of control as passengers run for their lives.

The shock wave triggered between 50 and 60 stones to be hurled and some of them penetrated the windows and affected the passengers. The most critical one, identified as Sujit Kumar from Begusarai, received injuries on the head and neck part of his body. He said that everyone was panicking and rushing around in terror as the stones padded on the ground.

Immediately the train was stopped and RPF personnel tried to apprehend the attackers but the culprits escaped. The incident led to a search operation during which three suspects were arrested.. It later made a halt at Mirzapur station where the injured had been ferried and their statements taken.
This is not the first time saboteurs attack Indian railways; there have been similar cases in the past. In recent past there have been several attempts where cylinders and iron rods have been placed on the tracks thus raising the security issues all over the country. Currently, North Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Shashikant Tripathi expressed that railway authorities have adopted severe precautions to mitigate the threat towards passenger safety.
