The actress recently turned attention at the Global Fashion Festival 2024 by strutting the ramp in a stunning Manipuri Potloi designed by renowned Manipuri designer Robert Naorem and woven with 24K genuine gold. The attire gave off a hint of Manipuri fashion. It’s interesting to note that Meitei Manipuri brides typically dress like Urvashi did.

The potloi, a drum-shaped skirt with a satin covering on top made of strong fibre and bamboo, distinguishes Manipuri bridal gowns from others. The ensemble has shimmering sequins and threadwork, along with a vahan that is fully embellished with mirror pieces.

The potloi’s history begins in the old Meitei dynasty, when Meidingu Bhagyachandra Maharaj (1763–1798 AD) wore it as his dance outfit. It is now considered one of the traditional wedding gowns among the Meitei population of Manipur. Making potloi is a highly valued job in the state that has been passed down to subsequent generations.
