Jharkhand Train Disruption: Massive Rockslide Blocks Sidhwar-Sanki Line, Leading to Rerouting of Vande Bharat Express and Other Major Trains

Train operations on Sidhwar-Sanki line in Jharkhand have been affected seriously due to rock slide at near tunnel no. 2 Ramgarh. Realized that it was raining non-stop, a huge bolder developed and fell on the railway line thereby blocking it, Train operations were brought to a standstill. A train engine which was in motion from Sankhi to Barkakana got trapped under the rock that was brought into the tunnel; though the incident was not very fatal as some people had minor injures, but the rock also did not roll for a very long distance.

The rockfall has affected the railway track in many ways and one of them is, there is several area in which the rock has eroded the ground and created uneven terrains which pose a serious problem for the stability of the track. Rest assured, current safety measures do include protective nets whose purpose is to catch rocks which may fall; however, this boulder managed to avoid the nets, hence pointing at a loophole in the current safety measures.

Consequently, a rescue team together with all the railway management has been sent to the scene with a rescue train as well. This is currently exercising efforts to clear the boulder and return services to a more favorable train frequency.

Due to this, the Dhanbad Railway Division has diverted many a trains such as Vande Bharat Express an express train off from their normal route passing through Barkakana, Siddhwar and other stations. The commuting time between Ranchi and Patna on Vande Bharat Express will be longer as the train will have to take a diversion from Muri affecting the timings by more than an hour or so. These new routes are as follows, and have now been implemented with further notice, unfavorable to the travelers in the region.
