Hardeep Singh Puri Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Echoing Jinnah’s Divisive Ideology in Response to Sikh Rights Remarks Made During US Visit
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, who is currently on a visit to the United States, has hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and likened the latter’s comments to those of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The above commentarial by Puri was in reference to Gandhi’s utterances during an event in Virginia where the latter has America’s religious freedom in India.
During the incident in Virginia, Rahul Gandhi expressed concern about minorities’ rights, specifically Sikhs. He asked about the future of whether or not Sikhs would even have the right to wear turbans, kadas and visit Gurdwaras in India. Thus, the subject of Gandhi’s speech was focused on religious rights in India.

In his rebuttal, Puri accused Gandhi of telling a tainted story that is similar to Jinnah’s, these words from him are very much a reflection of what Jinnah said, Puri contended, that is the spirit of Gandhi’s message, to divide Indians. Puri stated they are lies and questioned Gandhi for ignoring the participation of RSS and the overall RSS-based fundamentals of PM Modi’s administration, which he said only focuses on the unity of India.

Puri also took serious objection to the statements made by Gandhi decrying that he was trying to generate a sense of insecurity among some religious groups and charging that he was sectarian. He also stated that such rhetoric is destructive and reminiscent of Jinnah’s political agenda that aimed at fragmentation of India. Puri argued for the country’s rich historical traditions to preserve Indian Democracy’s core values of dialogue and unity instead of dividing it based on partisan rhetorical encounters.
