Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Heightened Security as Students’ ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ Rally Protests at State Secretariat Over RG Kar Incident

Student organizations protest against the tragic rape and murder case that occurred in RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata: student organisations are calling ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ today, 27 th August. The rally intends to hold a non-violent protest to gherao the Nabanna, the West Bengal state secretariat and demand justice and to oust the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for alleged role in manipulating the case.

But, the protest has raised eyebrows of the authorities and political leaderships. The Trinamool Congress has raised concern regarding its (the rally) being an opportunity for anti social elements to create trouble. The Kolkata Police has termed this march as unlawful and the government has put restricted orders in Nabanna to dodge any disruption.

Nonetheless, both the student groups have clarified that they would not interfere with today’s UGC-NET tests being held in two sessions. However, some institutions of learning have been forced to conduct online classes or are closed as a measure to deal with the disease.

On the investigative fronts, The Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI) have come a long way. The polygraph tests have been conducted twice with the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh and with the prime accused Sanjoy Roy. The Calcutta High Court has directed CBI to file a report on the probe conducted till now especially at RG Kar Hospital for any financial scam with the next hearing to be on September 17.
