SC Schedules K Kavitha’s Bail Hearing in Delhi Liquor Policy Case for August 27
SC to hear BRS leader K Kavitha's bail pleas on Aug 27 in Delhi liquor policy case; ED, CBI involved. Earlier HC denied bail citing conspiracy in excise policy.

The Supreme Court of India has listed the hearing of the bail application of the BRS leader K Kavitha for the 27th of August next month. These relate to alleged frauds in the now-scrapped new Delhi liquor policy for the year 2021-22, under probe by the ED and the CBI. The court had issued the notice on August 12, signifying its inclination to hear both the ED and CBI cases concurrently.

In course of the recent hearings, ASG SV Raju appearing for both the agencies informed the court that whereas the CBI had filed its affidavit, the ED was yet to file its response. The court therefore gave the ED till Thursday to file its counter-affidavit while providing Kavitha’s legal team only a day to reply.

Arguing for Kavitha, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi said that she is a co-accused in the same case in which Manish Sisodia has been granted bail. Rohatgi further went on the point that Kavitha must be granted the defence under section 45 of PMLA, which allows no strict bail terms for the female accused.

However, the Supreme Court turned down her plea seeking interim bail and said that it will only take up consideration of the matter in detail after hearing both, the CBI and ED. The same court had earlier rejected the bail application of Kavitha on July 1 stating that she was involved in the alleged conspiracy to benefit private liquor vendors through the Delhi excise policy.
