On Wednesday, Ram Gopal Varma posted a magazine cover from an Illustrated Weekly issue from 1990 on his X handle. The image featured Amitabh Bachchan in a beige ensemble, leaning his right hand against a wall, with the words “FINISHED!” stamped across the width.

Amitabh Bachchan endured a severe career downturn in the 1980s after enjoying a historic run as the Angry Young Man in the 1970s. Amitabh’s vengeance story Agneepath came out the year the magazine labeled him “finished.” Even though the movie wasn’t highly reviewed at the time, the next year it won him a National Award.
