Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, one of the well-renowned couples of Bollywood, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year. Unlike most Bollywood celebrities of today, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri (before marriage) got married on 3 rd June, 1973 in a simple wedding where only few friends and relatives were invited. Recently in a particular conversation, Jaya Bachchan spilled the beans on the one demand Amitabh Bachchan had before tying the knot.

Expressing the same in her grand-daughter Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast named ‘What The Hell Navya’, Jaya explained how Amitabh Bachchan did not want her to be all work and no play once they got married. That is why we had set on the plan to marry in October because my work would have been lighter by then. Yet, he (Amitabh) had said, ‘I definitely do not wish to have a wife, who will be 9 to 5. Kindly work but not on daily basis. ‘You decide your projects and collaborate with the right people’, Jaya disclosed.

But this remark did not go astound Jaya ji who took it well. After marriage too Amitabh Bachchan resumed his acting and not only became the top actor of Indian films but also one of the most respected, whereas Jaya Bachchan, the actress for whom many a film were made in the 70s decided to quit films after giving birth to their two children Shweta and Abhishek. This unveals how the two of them formed a powerful couple that complements each other and this power couple knew how to manage each other well. Indeed, their 51st wedding anniversary this year is a living testimony to this.

More, in 2014, at an occasion, Amitabh Bachchan had also appreciated his wife for this virtue. “Continuing with the negative aspects, one thing I was very impressed with Jaya for opting to give priority to home than films. There was no hindrance from me ever, it was her decision, ” Big B had said to India Today.

However, in the previous podcast with Navya, Jaya ji had disclosed that husband is her best friend. He and she built a strong marital relationship because they are friends in life and they can handle the twists and turns of life. Jaya Bachchan had once said it candidly, ‘Yes, my husband is my best friend, I don’t things from him’.
