Against All Odds: From Growing Up in a Slum to Becoming a Chartered Accountant – The Inspirational Journey of CA Amita Prajapati

An inspiring story, one which speaks volumes of determination, hard work and faith, and where Amita Prajapati, the ‘slum girl’ who became a Chartered Accountant. Living in a middle-class household, which was affected by financial problems on a daily basis, Amita’s father, who used to be a tea seller, could envision much more for his daughter. He had faith in his daughter and was willing to go against the traditional practices and the opinions of the people to provide her with an education.

Amita always wanted to excel academically, yet she was not an exceptional student in school and was often placed under the category of being dumb. However, the disturbing need to rise from the poor background and create a better future for both herself and her family gleamed brightly. Despite all the challenges, this was not going to dissuade her from the daunting journey to becoming a CA.

This was not easy to do while living in the slums with competing demands for most of your time and while striving to make ends meet academically. Although Amita got busy with school work, helps her father in the tea stall selling bread and other items and even studies at night with a kerosene lamp. Being encouraged by her father, Amita worked harder for her success even when other people mocked and doubted her father’s decision.

It was a decade of sacrifice, where she slept and ate for her dream, all aligned to her determined character. Finally, after hoping against hope, on 11 July 2024 she was able to pass her CA examination. The scene where she could finally hug her father and cry tears of joy signified the victory both for herself and her father.

Amita’s story is surely one that inspires hope in anyone who ever feels the burden of overcoming a hardship in his or her life. It emphasizes the message that one is capable of working hard and achieving his goals and dreams if backed by hardworking and perseverance from our loved ones. She is currently a registered Chartered Accountant and has goals of helping her community particularly in funding education and helping others open doors to success against all the odds.

It is quite inspiring how she rose from the slums to greatness and became a celebrated businessperson in the whole country. Education, self-confidence, and the strong love and support from family can help people overcome challenges and reach success.
