For a change… Ya!

All this while, we have witnessed Bollywood movies being influenced or inspired by Tollywood movies. Bollywood’s love for movies from the south needs no introduction. In fact new scripts as well have included elements from down south. Singham, Wanted, Ghajini, Ready, Rowdy Rathore etc. are amongst the few blockbuster movies which were remade into Hindi feature films and certainly have set the box-office rolling. But now, it seems that the tables have turned. Recently, we all must have come across that Tollywood has not only been lifting the ideas but also officially remaking them. Last year’s blockbuster movie Aashiqui 2, whose song ‘Tum Hi Ho’ was declared as the ‘love anthem of the year’, is all set to release in Telugu.

Nee Jathaga Nenundali’ is a remake of Aashiqui 2, starring by Sachin Joshi as Raghav Jayaram (originally played by Aditya Roy Kapoor) and debutant Nazia Hussain as Gayatri Nandana ( the role of Shraddha Kapoor). This is Sachin Joshi’s comeback film after ‘Orey Pandu’ which did not prove to be a success.

Aaha Kalyanam’, directed by debutant A. Gokul Krishna was a remake of Bollywood smash hit ‘Band Baja Baaraat’, originally directed by Maneesh Sharma. The film features Nani and Vaani Kapoor in the lead roles and was completely shot in Tamil. However, a dubbed Telugu version was released simultaneously along the Tamil version. The film was released worldwide on 21st February 2014 and was quite successful as well.

‘Anaamika’ which released on 2nd May 2014 and directed by Sekhar Kammula was the remake of critically acclaimed movie ‘Kahaani’, directed by Sujoy Ghosh. Nayanthara played the lead which was originally portrayed by Vidya Balan. Both the presentations were completely different with Ghosh’s work definitely much more appreciable.

Nanban’ featuring an ensemble cast of Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth, Ileana D’Cruz, Sathyan and Sathyaraj, was a remake of Bollywood’s highest grosser ‘3 Idiots’. Directed by Shankar in Tamil and eventually dubbed in Telugu, ‘Nanban’ was also screened at the Melbourne Film Festival on 12th June 2014. It was officially declared as one of the top grossing films in 2012.

Going by this scenario, One World News is quite sure that this is just the beginning. With new-age directors making a mark with their out-of-the-box concepts and ideas, it would not be surprising for any one of them to come across concepts which are worth giving tribute or making remakes and certainly, there is no harm in doing so.
