International Children’s Day 2024: How is it different from ‘Children’s Day’ in November?
International Children’s Day 2024 is observed on the first of June every year, symbolizing an international date aimed at fostering awareness of children’s rights and their welfare. Although many can easily recognize Children’s Day taking place on November 20 and November 14 in India as different is still possible to identify primary differences between all three events. International Children’s Day 2024: Date
The day that is set aside to celebrate children globally is known as International Children’s Day, it is always celebrated on the first of June every year and this year it falls on a Saturday.
History – International Children’s Day 2024:
International Children’s Day has a longer history than the International Literacy Day that started in the year 1920. Kiddies Charter, also known as Child Care, it was promulgated in 1925 by the World Conference for the Welfare of Children held in Geneva to spread awareness of situation of children in the world. This custom was taken from Russia only in the 1930s when the tradition of the speech for children’s rights, educational events, and health and happy children’s activities were starting for the first time on June 1st.
Difference between International Children’s Day 2024 and Children Day-
The date for celebrating International Children’s Day is June 1, and this event has been in existence since 1925 though its celebration is popular in some countries such as China, Russia where it mostly involves cultural activities, and community work. Universal Children’s Day is an International observance of November 20 initiated by the United Nations in the year 1954, which seeks to promote the welfare of children across the globe, observes the two important treaties for children rights.

As for India, Children’s Day is celebrated on November 14, the birthday of the first prime minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru, although he loved children so much. This day focuses on the education and development of the children in India and the shows that is entertaining for them. These days are not the same and they have specific historical background and sensitivity meaning that reflects changed cultural and international needs to protect children’s right.
Importance of the Day-
Day also stresses the need and the focus of raising awareness and protection of the rights of children to education, health, non-violence and not to be exploited. Among others it is a reminder of the global society’s role in the protection and advancement of children’s rights.
