Causes of Chapped Lips
Dehydration: Dehydration ranks as one of major factors leading to chapped lips. One of the first areas of your body that shows symptoms of dehydration is your lips, as there is usually a lack of fluids on your body at that point.
Mouth breathing: Breathing through your mouth is one factor in dry mouth (particular during sleep), and the reason is soon evaporation of moisture.

Prevent Chapped lips –
Moisturise regularly: Keep your lips moisturised by applying lip balm often and especially after eating or drinking, when your lips need this. Also apply Vaseline or petroleum jelly during the day.
Use sun protection: Apply Lip Balm with SPF prior to exposing yourself to the sun’s ultraviolet rays to shield your lips from the sun’s potential harm.
Protect from the elements: Ensure to keep a scarf or face mask with you in windy condition so that your lips stay wet by preventing them from drying out.
Avoid licking your lips: Although it can temporarily deliver the comfort you seek, licking your lips most likely will increase dryness because natural oils and moisture would have been removed.
Choose lip products wisely: Prefer breathable, moisturising coating lip balms that do not contain painfully harmless components such as fragrances and colors.
