World No Tobacco Day 2024 will provide an opportunity for youth worldwide to voice their demands that the tobacco industry cease tobacco that are not good to their health.
World No Tobacco Day
World No Tobacco Day was introduced by the Member States of the World Health Organisation (WHO), in 1987 to bring to the attention of the people the harms resulting from tobacco in the face of health difficulties of the people, loss of health in their communities, and environmental pollution.
This World No Tobacco Day has the purpose of the highlighting the policies of tobacco companies that only target young customers and are interfering with the process of policy making that indiscriminately affects the progress of the tobacco control efforts. It sets forth the battle against the “tobacco epidemic” that is the cause of health disorders that eventually claim up to half of its users and more than 8 million deaths every year, as well as initiatives that WHO has implemented, and calls to action from people on how to stop the spread among future generations and allow everyone a chance to enjoy their right to health. Annually, World No Tobacco Day keeps in focus one of the main issues surrounding the world of tobacco and its industry.
Aim of World No Tobacco Day
The campaign of World No Tobacco Day 2024 will have the theme of “Child protection from tobacco sector interference” as this will be the way to secure all children future health and decline the rate of tobacco use. While this year special emphasis is made on the fact that the tobacco industry excessively advertises to the youth, these campaigns should address this issue and be directed mainly to them. Teenagers are influenced by the tobacco industry which is now more active in social media and streaming platforms. It poses a considerable health hazard to them as they spend a lot of time in these platforms. Attending to teenagers’ surveys from all over the world, it is very clear that kids become thirteen or fourteen years old use mostly tobacco and nicotine products in lots of countries.
Youth’s smoking continues to be prominent in many countries across the world and more young people could be on the increase. Not less than thirty-eight-million youngsters who vary age from thirteen to fifteen years are involved in tobacco use. In the year of 2022, particularly in the newest series that youth from this age group (15-24 years) often see, scenes with smoking increased by 110%, displaying smoking as stylish and attractive. Media images depicting smoking don’t only affect the adolescent audience indirectly, but it triples the chances of young people making the switch from smoking to vaping.
