Russian investigators have officially confirmed the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner mercenary group, due to a plane crash. Genetic analysis was used to establish his death, raising questions about the crash’s cause. Suspicions of Kremlin involvement have emerged, especially since the incident occurred two months after Wagner’s mutiny against Moscow’s military leadership.

Investigation is going on:

Russian investigative committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko stated that molecular-genetic examinations identified all 10 victims, matching the flight list. The private jet crash involved other individuals, including Dmitry Utkin, linked to Wagner’s operations and Russian military intelligence. While the Kremlin expressed condolences, plenty of enemies are the speculation continues.

Amid this, makeshift memorials for Prigozhin have appeared across Russian cities. Tensions between Russia and Ukraine remain high, with ongoing border-region drone strikes. Ukraine has lost pilots in a recent collision, including notable fighter ace “Juice.” The incident has prompted Kyiv to seek advanced F-16 jets for its air force modernization.
