Apex Court Restores Rahul Gandhi’s MP Status, Congress Celebrates the Return

Last week the Apex Court stayed the conviction of Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 defamation case over his “MODI’ surname remark which had subsequently cost his Parliamentary seat.

As a consequence of the Apex Court’s decision, the lower house restored Rahul Gandhi’s membership as MP.

Hours after the Lok Sabha secretariat approved Rahul Gandhi’s return as MP, prior to marking his attendance  in the ongoing Monsoon session, the Congress leader paid respect to Gandhi statue. I.N.D.I.A. ‘s member was well received by the Congress leaders, showcasing huge celebrations.

A notification was released from Lok Sabha that reads that:

On March 23, Rahul Gandhi lost his eligibility to serve in the Lok Sabha after the Gujarat court found him guilty for his comments on “MODI” surname and was sentenced 2 years of jail imprisonment, but was later granted bail.

Prominent Opposition leaders took to social media to express their joy , Mallika Arjun Kharge, President of INC tweeted  “relief to the people of India.” The INC President was seen offering sweets with his hands to the members of I.N.D.I.A.

Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor wrote “A victory for justice and for our democracy!”

Rahul Gandhi’s return to parliament and participation in the Monsoon session at this moment holds a lot of importance for I.N.D.I.A.  As the Congress leader is eligible to participate in No-Confidence debate which will be followed by Manipur violence discussion.

I.N.D.I.A. is aiming to target the N.D.A. in the upcoming General Elections.
