It takes three to tango
‘TROIKA’, was a group show. With three contemporary designers who breathe, think and design out-of-the-box, the collection surely came to be a breather from the ordinary. The show took place in a rather unconventional venue, a makeshift factory cum store house with raw brick walls for display and plain cemented floor for a ramp! Clearly the emphasis was on clothes.
Jayeta, Joyeeta and Sumiran, the new-age designers, got together to put up this collective show. Coming from different institutes and following different ideologies, the three musketeers indeed swept the audiences off their feet
Designer Jayeta Rohilla, a fashion graduate from the Institute of Apparel Management, Gurgaon, with her brand ‘Mae’ (Myself in Hindi) came up with the collection ‘Shakti’. As the name goes, it highlighted the need for more power to the women of India! ‘Shakti’ is a message for all the women out there to stop victimizing themselves. It’s time they change, take a stand for themselves and fight for the respect they deserve.
Women are to be guided so that they get to know their worth and importance. It is they themselves who have to take up the mantle to fight for their respect, and as long as they keep accepting it, they’ll end being at lose
We can bond and develop the family such that the next generation respects and understands women.
If you look into her eyes,
you’ll see a loving girl…
if you look at her smile,
you’ll see nothing wrong…
if she’d pull up her shirt,
you’ll see the bruises….
As quoted by Jayeta , ‘Mae’ is all about being oneself! “Accepting and loving oneself for who we are in the true sense. It’s a collection of women’s wear to help them look taller, slimmer and clearer. Celebrate yourself and celebrate being Mae. The silhouettes were comfortable and relaxing, the fabric was majorly cotton keeping the hot summers in mind. The aim is to feel beautiful in the heat.
Designer Joyeeta Kar, after completing her Bachelors in fashion designing from Pearl Academy, New Delhi, trained as a stylist at Naba-Domus Academy, Milan. ‘Joy’, her brand was a pastel story on hues of peaches and pinks with little add-ons of checks and stripes. Her collection was vivid, the cuts on the garment were minimal with subtle color blocking and playful embroidered brooches and bows. The feel of freshness was clearly the focus of her exhibition and the show was styled with bougainvilleas and flower baskets keeping the aura distinctive and charming. The clothing is easy and playful with a hint of androgyny. Simplicity and quality are the two key factors in her design.
The third musketeer, Sumiran Kabir Sharma, was surely a promising watch. Post his graduation in 2013, from Pearl Institute of Fashion, this maverick has to his credit, internships with ‘Gaurav and Ritika’ , ‘Pankaj and Nidhi’, and the prestigious “Woolmark Young Talent Award” for Best Design Of Merino Collection under his belt.
His collection for the day was coined ‘Prem’ (meaning love in Hindi), and, about loving who you are. It talked about love itself- the formless, indefinable feeling that is the ek mcause for all life that exists.
Each garment was inspired by a real character, which had been translated into its very essence and structure. Sumiran’s label ‘Anaam’, undoubtedly, has a soul of its own.
