The son of former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, Santosh Kumar has quit the party and resigned from the Cabinet of Nitish Kumar.

Why did Santosh Kumar Sadan quit?
The former minister quit the Cabinet as there was a lot of pressure to merge his party Hindustan Awam Morcha (Secular) with Janta Dal (United). He said, “Our party’s existence was under threat, I did this to protect it.”

He used an interesting statement to explain his decision, “Various creatures live in a jungle. There are lions, and small animals who are hunted…all of them escape, deer also escape. We were also escaping so far but felt today that we won’t be safe for long so parted ways.”
It is believed that HAM (S) can also join BJP. He said, “We could decide about joining the NDA if the workers wished so and this appears to be in our interests. We don’t have any problem with joining the NDA.”
Kumar quitting the Cabinet before the great meeting of all opposition parties does signify a larger game at play. Major opposition parties are planning to meet in Patna on June 23rd to form an alliance against the ruling BJP and strategising how to defeat them in the upcoming 2024 elections. The meeting will also be attended by Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and more leaders.
Who is replacing him?
He has been replaced by Ratnesh Sada of JD (U) of Sonbarsa constituency. He is a third-term MLA and took his oath on Friday.

Nitish Kumar’s JD (U) has been in power in Bihar for years now, making on-and-off alliances with other parties from time to time. JD (U) also has a presence in Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Manipur. In the 2019 General Elections, it won 16 seats, making it the seventh-largest party in Lok Sabha.
