So, what is the promise of 200 units of free electricity?
As promised, the Karnataka Government has taken its pledge seriously and is ready to give people the free 200 units of electricity. This comes under the Gruha Jyothi Scheme of the Government and the free units will depend on the yearly consumption of the household and the monthly average will be calculated.

However, the CM has also said that all the arrears will have to be cleared before 1st July if they want to avail this service.
Energy Minister K J George said that the Gruha Jyothi scheme will require Rs 13,000 crore annually and cover almost 96% of households with electricity.
Explaining the scheme, the Minister said “If this falls within 200 units, the household is eligible for free electricity. If a household crosses its annual average consumption and the 10 percent buffer, they will have to pay for the extra units.”
The Chief Minister also explained the reason for using this 10% formula “Taking the average of 12 months plus 10 percent is so that some people don’t misuse it.”
