$300 mn Deal Between US-India To Enhance Navy Capabilities


In one of the most iconic and biggest buys, the $300 mn deal between the US- India will help enhance the Indian Navy’s capabilities and take it a notch higher. The final conclusion about the deal is yet to be published. 

What is India buying?

India is looking to buy American weapons, such as Hellfire missiles and Mark 54 anti-submarine torpedoes, for its MH-60 Romeo multirole helicopters.

What is the Hellfire Missiles?

These are precision-guided missiles that can be used for warfare. 

They are mostly designed for anti-armor and anti-personnel missions.

What are the Mark 54 anti-submarine torpedoes?

The MK 54 lightweight torpedoes are advanced anti-submarine warfare (ASW). They are primary weapon systems for surface ships, helicopters, and fixed-wing aircrafts. It will be a great addition to the maritime security of India as it helps in detecting, engaging, and tracking enemy submarines and protecting naval assets.

What is the MH-60 Romeo multirole helicopter?

Last year, India received two MH-60 Romeo multirole helicopters from its total order of 24 helicopters. An official statement released by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), read The United States Department of State has approved the sale of 24 MH-60R multi-mission helicopters to India under its Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.”

This will provide India with the capacity to carry out anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare as well. It can also perform secondary missions, vertical replenishment, search and rescue, and communications relay. This state-of-the-art helicopter is an advanced helicopter and will boost the capability of the Indian Navy.

Indian Navy 

Over the years, India has put a major focus on developing as well as enhancing its defense weapons. The military spending has gone up to develop a good strategy and be prepared for any attack on Indian territory. DRDO, along with industry partners, is also working towards increasing the naval ballistic missile defence capabilities. 

In the recently concluded AIME-2023 (ASEAN- India Maritime Exercise), the Indian Navy flaunted its indigenous warships .
