Movies are a great way to take a break from the monotony of life and do something that helps you feel at ease and relaxed. Watching a movie is like transporting yourself to another world. Comedy movies in Bollywood are completely different ball-game altogether and allow you to shut your brain off and have a good laugh. 

So which are some of the best comedy movies in Bollywood that will always make you laugh?

1. Andaz Apna Apna

The 1994 movie is still a classic one. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and a star-lit cast of Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Raveena Tandon, the movie is the top choice comedy movie to date. From fake princesses to crime lords- the movie has everything to entertain you. This is also undoubtedly one of the best comedy movies in Bollywood.

2. Delhi belly 

The 2011 black comedy film was directed by Abhinay Deo and is known for its edgy humor, bold language, and quirky characters. With Imran Khan, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Vir Das, and Poorna Jagannathan in the lead roles, the movie is one of the best comedy movies in Bollywood. The movie also helped in establishing Imran Khan as a fine actor, unfortunately, we have not seen much of him in Bollywood movies.

3. Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri

How can there be a list of comedy movies without mentioning Hera Pheri movies? Hera Pheri is a cult classic Bollywood film. This comedy film was released in 2000 and the prequel was released in 2006. The hilarious trio of Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, and Sunil Shetty set the movie on fire and leave you wanting more. We really wouldn’t mind a third part as well!

4. 3 Idiots

The 2009 movie was revolutionary, if not anything else. The Rajkumar Hirani movie was loosely based on the book by Chetan Bhagat and broke multiple records after its release. The movie had everything- comedy, romance, friendship, great songs, and an impactful message. Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Kareena Kapoor were the main cast of the film and played their roles brilliantly. The movie has been a source of inspiration for many and stands out as one of the best movies in Bollywood, with some amazing dialogues and storyline.

5. Welcome

“Control Uday..Control”- if you have seen this meme and know what it means, then welcome to the club! (Yes, pun intended!)

Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, and Paresh Rawal together create a comedy riot on screen and gave some memorable performances.

6. Dhamaal

The 2007 movie was a hilarious adventure (quite literally!), along with witty dialogues, slapstick humor, and excellent performances by the cast. Sanjay Dutt, Ritesh Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, and Javed Jaffrey- all did a fantastic job in keeping up the standards of the movie. The second installment of the movie, Double Dhamaal: 420s was released in 2011 and Total Dhamaal in 2019. The follow up movies were good, but not beter than the first one!

7. Golmaal

The Rohit Shetty franchise movie is legendary for its plot, acting, and comic timing. Though nothing beats the first installment of the movie, the others are still watchable.  Golmaal Returns was released in 2008 and was the second installment. In 2010, Golmaal 3 was released, which broke many records. And the fourth intallment Golmaal Again was released in 2017. The movie is based on the Gujarati play, Aflatoon by Mihir Bhuta and was also made into  a Malyalam movie, Kakkakuyil. Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, and Tusshar Kapoor are the main cast of the movie and the film is also popular for its catchy songs. The movies, till date is considered a modern cult film.

8. Heyy Baby 

Three friends have to take care of a baby left on their doorstep, and what ensues is a series of hilarious events that make the movie a wild success. Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, and Fardeen Khan in the movie did a great job and were believable to a large extent. The movie is a remake of the iconic Hollywood movie, Three Men and a Baby of 1987.

9. Good Newwz

An unexpectedly great movie, Good Newwz released in 2019 and stars Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Diljit Dosanjh. The movie was a commercial success, and the hilarious moments were worth watching. The movie was also a huge hit and earned huge numbers in the box office. It has also been met positively amongst the OTT viewers.

10. Munna Bhai Movies

Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. was released in 2003, and Lage Raho Munna Bhai was released in 2006. Both movies saw wild success because of its plot and the message they conveyed. With Sanjay Dutt in the leading role to Arshad Warsi as the loveable sidekick, the movie has some great and funny moments that make it a good watch.

In all, comedy movies in Bollywood have a legacy of their own. They are funny, entertaining and a complete package. If you are ever feeling bored and want to just relax, make a movie night out of it! Play the movies, call over friends, eat amazing food and laugh your hearts out!
