From Varun Tomar winning India’s 1st medal at the ISSF Cairo World Cup to an Indian breaking Guinness World Record by building the largest bird feeder, here are the six good news from the week that will make your Monday mood.

Khush Khabri no.1 : Varun Tomar wins India’s First medal at the ISSF Cairo World Cup

Bringing immense pride to the motherland, Varun Tomar won India’s 1st medal in the men’s 10m air pistol competition at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), World Cup Rifle/pistol in Cairo.

He outplayed compatriot Sarabjot Singh in a shoot-off to win his bronze medal. Varun and Sarabjot qualified for the finals with qualification scores of 583 (2nd) and 581 (5th), respectively.

Good news no. 2 : India to get 12 cheetahs from South Africa

India’s effort to protect wildlife gained momentum. The nation is set to welcome the 2nd batch of 12 cheetahs, including five females from South Africa, on February 18th

The cheetahs will be released into their quarantine enclosures in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park. Under the Cheetah Reintroduction Program, the first 8 Namibian cheetahs reached the Kuno national park on September 17th last year.

Khush Khabri no. 3: Indian breaks Guinness World Record by Building the largest bird feeder

Haresh Shah, a native of the Maharashtra town, Peepul, built a bird feeder that can feed 108 birds simultaneously with 700 kilograms of grain.

This bird feeder is made from recyclable materials, adding to its appeal. According to The Indian Express, Guinness World Records recognised the Shah bird feeder as the most significant bird feeder in the world by volume on April 4, 2022.

Good news, no. 4: One man’s trash is another’s treasure- Kashmir’s village offers gold for plastic!

By living up to the idea “One man’s trash is another’s treasure,” Sadiwara, a village in Jammu and Kashmir, has set an example.

The village head offers one gold coin for every 20 quintals of polythene waste brought to the panchayat. As soon as the clean-up mission got underway, villagers came together to collect household plastic waste and prevent it from being dumped into fields and waterways.

“While the government and state administrations place a lot of emphasis on cleanliness, the mission can only be achieved if citizens contribute”, said the village headman Farooq Ahmad Ganaie. An environmentalist himself, Farooq started advocating for cleaner spaces by convincing the villagers to build garbage pits in their houses rather than the disposal of solid waste.

Khush Khabri no. 5: ‘Scan My Collar’ now, your Paw-Buddy will get its UID

A Mumbai-based engineer and dog lover, Akshay Ridlan, created tags using QR code technology to track stray dogs. The man behind the idea aims to give people these tags at a nominal price to increase the technology’s reach.

“It will also help the government find dogs’ locations and make strategies for their sterilisation or vaccination. It can be done through the database. We want to offer this QR at a nominal price right now. People and organisations that feed or rescue animals can use this,” Akshay stated, reported NDTV.’
