Neal Mohan becomes the new CEO of YouTube


Neal Mohan becomes new CEO of YouTube after Susan Wojcicki decided to step down from her post on Thursday. Susan had served as the CEO of YouTube since 2014 and was also involved in the  creation of Google as the first office was set in the garage of her home, back in 1998.

In her tweet, she says- “Today, after nearly 25 years at @Google , I’m stepping back to start a new chapter. I’m inspired every day by creators around the world who bring people together on @YouTube . It’s been an honor to have a front row seat to this incredible community.”

In the official blog post of YouTube, A personal update from Susan, she also addressed the change of leadership and appreciated Neal Mohan as an incredible leader. “I’ve spent nearly 15 years of my career working with Neal, first when he came over to Google with the DoubleClick acquisition in 2007 and as his role grew to become SVP of Display and Video Ads.” She concluded by stating that Mohan “has as a wonderful sense for our product, our business, our creator and user communities, and our employees. Neal will be a terrific leader for YouTube.”

Background of Neal Mohan

Mohan is a graduate from Stanford University where he got a degree in Bachelor of Science and studied Electrical Engineering. He then went for an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He was a part of DubleClick, an advertising company which is how he became a part of Google in 2007 when the company was acquired by Google. He then became the Senior Vice President of Display and Video Ads.

Mohan has also been responsible for setting “a top-notch product and UX team, played pivotal roles in the launch of some of our biggest products, including YouTube TV, YouTube Music and Premium and Shorts, and has led our Trust and Safety team, ensuring that YouTube lives up to its responsibility as a global platform.”

Being a chief product officer at YouTube since 2015, he was a part of the leadership that has helped YouTube reach the heights it is at today. As Google and YouTube both tackle with its changing roles and challenges of AI, TikTok and moreover, it is important to see how both the Indian Origin CEOs will lead their organizations.
