Johnny Depp-Amber Heard case : Johnny Depp is one of the greatest actors in Hollywood and recipient of several awards. In the year 2015, he married actor Amber Heard and two ultimately ended their marriage in the year 2017. Now, Johnny Depp has slapped a 50 million USD lawsuit on his ex – wife Amber Heard. Let’s take a look at how it all started.
In the year 2009, Johnny Depp-Amber Heard case met for the first time on the set of –“The Rum Diary”. Johnny Depp played a Journalist, Paul Kemp who falls in love with Chenault, played by Amber Heard. In the year 2011 -2012, Johnny Depp separated from his partner, Venessa Paradis with whom he had two children. On the other hand, Amber Heard broke up with her partner Taysa van Ree. In the end of 2011 or 2012, the reports of their dating surfaced.
In the year 2014, People Magazine reported the engagement of two actors. After that, Johnny Depp himself confirmed it in an interview with Daily Mail.
Coming to the year 2015, the couple secretly tied the knot in the Los Angeles abode with their close friends and family. Well, in the year 2016, the whirlwind marriage decided to deteriorate just as quickly as started. May 27, 2016 saw Amber Heard run into a courthouse with a purple bruise on her face as she filed for a restraining order against Depp.
2016
She said that Depp physically abused her and she got the recent bruise as Depp threw phone at her face. Later, a Police spokesperson told People magazine that allegations by Heard were baseless. Notably, the couple later released a joint statement that said, “Our relationship was intensely passionate at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm”, as reported by Vulture.
2017
The couple’s divorce was finalized and their marriage was over.
2018
Amber Heard wrote an Op –Ed for Washington Post detailing how abusers were shielded by prestigious institutions and treatment of women in domestic abuse lawsuits. Notably, Depp’s name was not mentioned. Later, Disney announced to drop him as Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of Caribbean.
2019
Johnny Depp decided to slap a USD 500 million lawsuit against Heard for Defamation. The filing said it was her elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity. After that, Heard detailed a few instances where she was verbally and physically abused.
July 2020
The Sun Magazine called Johnny Depp “Wife Beater”. The actor filed a lawsuit against the publisher and executive editor. After this title, the actor was asked to leave his role as s Grindelwald from the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
November 2020
The court ruled against Depp and justified the Sun Magazine calling him Wife Beater.

Depp’s appeal to Court was denied, for the second time.
April 2022
Depp and Heard’s USD 100 million lawsuit defamation started on April 11. The case was initiated with powerful opening statements from their respective representatives. Well, their case in the second week. Depp testified that Heard had a need for violence during their relationship.
While on the stand, Depp also talked about his experience with an abusive mother. He also revealed that Heard was the real abuser in their relationship and the change in their relationship started with her making little digs and demeaning name calling. The actor added that sometimes these arguments would escalate to violence, with Heard. Finally, he revealed that he had to distance himself from those verbal attacks.
Heard has not taken a stand yet in the trial, which is expected to last six weeks.
