Know Revolver Rani More With Kangana and Vir

Kangana Ranaut might not be similar to Alka Singh in any way, but what is common for sure, is their fondness for fashion and culture. Like Kangana has love for fashion and culture of Venice, Alka Singh (main lead character of the movie) is fond of clothes and accessories from Europe. As soon as, Kangana learnt about her role, she wanted to give her a special look, for which she specially ordered clothes and accessories, like sunglasses, from Venice. She made sure that clothes were selected by her team which had a Venice inspiration.

In a press conference that happened in capital, Kangana Ranaut and VirDas briefed about their upcoming movie, ‘Revolver Rani’. Kangana says that ‘Revolver Rani’ is a plot-driven story which revolves around Alka Singh, who is a lunatic character, a corrupt political figure with too many criminal records, and someone for whom survival gets difficult if she doesn’t murder twice a month. “She is someone who has committed the crime of murdering at the age of seven, and just because she belongs from lower caste, she’s been pulled into politics by her own (Mama) uncle.” says Kangana.

VirDas, who plays the role of toy-boy of Alka Singh, explained the tag line of the movie, “Abmardkobhidardhoga”, saying that every man suffers from pain, but in this movie his character of RohanMehra, suffers from a specific type of pain. “My character is of a person, who is very selfish, alpha-male, brash, manipulative; and seduces Rani to gain power, success and money. He is a wannabe Bollywood star and a bad actor, (and playing a bad actor is itself a challenge for any actor) uses women and do not respect them at all. Rani, for him, is nothing more than a project, but, even he did not expect that this relationship would become a true one. For both of them, the relationship turns into a scary-relationship as the movie progresses, wherein, they are addicted to each other but do not belong to each other. The best part about the movie is that none of the characters are shown positive. Every character is involved in something or the other just for their own means.”

While talking about her character of Alka Singh, Kangana said that her family didn’t want her to do such bold role. “Such roles, which are played by women, are hard to be absorbed by audience, in society like ours. She is a character who is ignored by everyone around, ugly, scary, dangerous and so on. When I heard this script, as a creative person, I was amazed. And I knew playing such character would not be easy. So, I took it as a challenge and was pretty excited. The other reason was also that this movie is a new concept and new presentation. We had to think so much on her look and dressing sense. We called a team from London who changed my look for the character by making popped-out eyes, thick eyebrows, broad jaws etc.after which, when I made appearance in front of the team they said “Who is this? We paid for Kangana, we want her back”. They didn’t want me to look ugly, but then I wanted to justify the character. So, after brain storming a lot over it, (giggling) we realised that people might not watch even half of the movie if the character is villainous and the actress playing the character is ugly too. So, we worked over the character in a subtle way by thickening the eye-brows, making crooked nose, and worked hard over accent and body language.”

She believes that Bollywood is not much enthusiastic in terms of giving chance to newbies, and even if they do, they are given concepts that have been running since long. “Releasing Queen was so difficult for us, so many weren’t ready to release it. It’s hard to release such movies which are out of trends. Contemporary film makers have variety of ideas that haven’t been used in Bollywood till now, so they should get more encouragement.” says Kangana Ranaut.

At the end, KanganaRanaut and Vir Das said that this movie is a Desi-pulp fiction, like novels of DevPrakashVerma. And when one will watch it, they will feel that Revolver Rani is an apt title for this movie. The movie is a funny take over the political scenario, which is outrageous but real and depiction of people who rule our country. Kangana says, that though she has played a political leader in movie, in real she does not want to be a part of politics, plus she adds, that everyone in this movie is a cartoon, who does everything and anything for their purpose. Concluding, Vir Das says that it is not a movie with a single character in power, but one would come across power shifts which is a surprising and exciting part about the movie. So, go to your nearest theatre on 25th April, watch the movie and experience a twisted love-story, a twisted political-reality, a different role by Kangana and madness altogether.
