Ghajini – Memento
Ghajini (2008) is actually a Bollywood remake of the 2000 masterpiece by Christopher Nolan, Memento. Starring the Perfectionist himself, the movie is thoroughly entertaining. Although Memento is one of the best Hollywood movies, Ghajini does justice to it. The stories are not identical but Ghajini is heavily Inspired by the Guy Pearce starrer. Both the movies are about a man who develops anterograde amnesia after a violent incident, losing his memory approximately every 15 minutes. Ghajini was a very successful movie as it became the highest-grossing movie of the year and became the first Bollywood movie to cross the 100 crore mark domestically. The movie was directed by A.R. Murugadoss and is a must-watch.
Ek Ruka Hua Faisla – 12 Angry Men
Easily the best movie on the list, Ek Ruka Hua Faisla (1986) is based on the Sidney Lumet movie 12 Angry Men released in 1957. 12 Angry Men was based on a 1954 teleplay by Reginald Rose of the same name. The story is about a 12 men jury deliberation on the conviction or acquittal of an 18-year-old defendant on the basis of reasonable doubt. The jurors are forced to question their morals and values as they spend hours debating about the incident. Only one of the jurors is not 100 per cent sure that the boy was guilty and tries to remove everybody else’s prejudices and biases to make them look at the case with a neutral perspective. Brilliant performances by the likes of Pankaj Kapoor, Annu Kapoor and KK Raina, the movie will engage you from the beginning to the credits.

Kaante – Reservoir Dogs
Quentin Tarantino, the legendary director of Reservoir Dogs himself was quoted saying that Kaante is his favourite among the many films that were heavily inspired by his work. A nod from the two-time Academy Award winner means that the Bollywood remake was great. And so, it was. Starring an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Lucky Ali, and Mahesh Manjrekar, the movie was an absolute success at the box office. Released in 2002, the movie is about 6 Indian men who are detained by the Los Angeles Police Department. Feeling wronged they team up to plan a bank heist that would leave the Police Department penniless. Things get more interesting when they start suspecting each other’s identities, resulting in violence and chaos.
Bang Bang! – Knight and Day
This official remake of Knight and Day stars Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif. The movie is about a mysterious international criminal on the run, whose encounter with a bank receptionist sets off a chain of events, filled with action sequences. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the movie was praised for its action sequences and aesthetic cinematography. Though it received mostly poor reviews from the critics, the movie was a huge commercial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films. It may not have the best story but the movie was enjoyable thanks to the action and comedy.
Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander -Breaking Away
Mansoor Khan’s coming of age movie starring Aamir Khan, Ayesha Jhulka, Deepak Tijori, Pooja Bedi, Mamik Singh and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. The movie was heavily influenced by the 1979 movie Breaking Away. The movie is centred around the most prestigious college event – the marathon cycle race. The movie was an absolute banger at the box office, earning 927 million rupees (adjusted to inflation). It also got a great critical response with the critics praising the performances, sets, and cinematography. It is easily one of the best Bollywood remakes of Hollywood movies.
