Birth Anniversary of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, the legendary poet of all time

Remembering the best of Harivansh Rai Bachchan

“Tu na thake kabhi, Tu na thamega Kabhi,

Tu na mudega kabhi, Kar shapath, Kar shapath, kar shapath, Agnipath, agnipath, agnipath.”

Well, do I need to tell who wrote these beautifully commanding lines. Does the writer of these lines need any introduction? No, Right. Agnipath, written by none other than Harivansh Rai Bachchan is one of the most famous poems of all time. And the writer, the father of the legendary actor, Amitabh Bachchan definitely needs no introduction.

Harivansh Rai Bachchan is one of the gems of Hindi Literature who not just wrote poems of rebel and power but brought a spectacle of romanticizing life and self-identification.

Where he is known for his contributions to Hindi literature, for a fact, and in contrast to his fame, he was the first Indian Ph.D. in English Literature for Cambridge University. And today, it is the 113th birth anniversary and we don’t want to lose this opportunity to go back to the best of his work.

Best poems of Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan

Madhushala

The first one on the list has to be Madhushala and why not, it is the most alarming and fearful of all of his work. The lines “Chahe jitna tu pee pyala, chahe jitna tu ban matwala, sun bhed batati hun antim, yeh shaant nahi hoga jwala, main madhushala ki Madhubala.” are as deep as the oceans yet simplest of all.

Din Jaldi Jaldi Dhalta hai

A poem that talks about the uncertainty, the pace of life, the destination, and how in this falling world, everyone moves out to find light, the destination. The words of the poem are –

“Ho jaye path mein raat kahin, manzil bhi toh hai kahin, ye soch thaka din ka panthi bhi jaldi-jaldi chalta hai. Din jaldI-jaldi dhalta hai.”

Haha Sab Kuch Bikta hai

Kabhi phulo ki tarah mat jeena, jis din khiloge tutkar bikhar jaoge, jeena hai toh pattar ki tarah jio, ek din taraashe gaye to, bhagwan ban jaoge.

The perspective of life is what this poem reflects. Flowers, which pleases everyone are kept parallel to life and the poet asks to not live like flowers because when they blossom, they will get disintegrated and urges to live with the unlikely, the stone, which if craved, might get the shape of god.
