Shivaling, pillars and broken idols found at Ayodhya Ram Janmbhoomi

Also, know why the findings have a significance even after the verdict

A five-foot Shivaling, broken idols of Devi-Devtas, six pillars of red sandstone were found during the land levelling work at Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya. This is touted as a major archaeological finding by the experts.

Champat Rai, the General Secretary of Sri Ram Janmbhoomi Tirth Kshetra Trust while making the announcement said that, as the site was being levelled since last 10 days, we discovered pillars in the debris of the structures and cravings on sandstone today. We also found a Shivaling there and a similar one at Kuber Teela.

Although the Supreme Court has solved the matter of the Ayodhya dispute, the findings still hold significance as the presence of temple beneath the overground structures was a bone contention for decades in the favor of Ram-Lala.

Archaeological Survey of India in its findings stated that there were remains of an ancient temple beneath the site where the Babri Masjid was built.  The ASI excavated the disputed land after it was ordered by Allahabad High court 15 years before the final verdict. However, ASI wasn’t able to establish if the temple was demolished to build a mosque.

Ram-Lala was Shifted by CM Yogi Adityanath

Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister performed special puja on February 25 and shifted Ram Lala from the makeshift temple in Ayodhya to another pre-fabricated temple in the same premises. Only limited people were allowed on the premises in the wake of coronavirus. PM Modi had announced a complete lockdown across the country on March 24 to stop the coronavirus from spreading.

Historical verdict of Ayodhya

The five-member constitutional bench of the SC headed by then-Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi had awarded the entire disputed area in Ayodhya to the Hindu parties. The bench included Justices DY Chandrachud, S Abdul Nazeer, SA Bobde and Ashok Bhushan. The top court order directed the central government to formulate a scheme within three months which will be responsible for building the temple. The Supreme Court also asked the UP government to give an alternate land of 5 acres in Ayodhya to the Sunni Central Waqf Board for the constructions of the mosque.
