Why India should learn from South Korea and send better movies to Oscars

These movies deserved a place rather than Gully Boy as the official entry to Oscars

Recently, Parasite became the first South Korean movie to win an Oscar for Best Movie in the Oscars 2020. The South Korean movie created history by winning four Academy Awards even though it was a non-English film. Parasite, directed by Bong Joon Ho also won awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best International Feature.

All the movie buffs would be surely delighted after the big win of Parasite at the Oscars 2020. After all, Hollywood is appreciating efforts of non-English movies. For us Indians, somewhere it hurts to not see any Indian movie even getting a nomination at Oscars year after year. Somewhere we think that we too have the same glory as “Parasite” in some of our films but it was sidelined for an overrated film like ‘Gully Boy’.

India has never won an Oscar in the Best Foreign Film category till date and has been nominated only thrice for Mother India, Lagaan and Salaam Bombay.

Tumbbad is one of those films which could have brought us that glory. Let’s look at 5 such movies which could have done wonders for India at the Oscars 2020.

Tumbbad has developed a cult status for itself for its amazing plotline and story. The movie focuses on the greed of the main character in the movie who decides to satiate his lust by entering the abandoned Tumbbad Wada and steal gold coins from the loincloths of Hastar, a King.
